Volunteer

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the MIlton HOuse Museum, and the physical structure and Milton Historical Society would not be here without them.

It was a group of community minded individuals who formed the Milton Historical Society in 1948 to purchase the then dilapitated Milton House building from the Goodrich Family. It was those same dedicated volunteers who repaired the building and opened it as a museum in 1954.

Volunteers again stepped up to the plate in the mid 1990s when they spent hundreds of hours researching and spent their own money to travel to conferences  and tirelessly advocated for the Milton House to gain its status as a National Historic Landmark, which was granted in 1998.

Since the time of its opening as a museum almost 75 years ago, the Milton Historical Society has largely functioned under the direction of dedicated volunteers. Today, the museum still has an entirely volunteer board of Directors, and the museum would not be able to function without its volunteers who fill many roles.

Our volunteers tell the story of the Milton House as docents on tours, and assist guests with research in our archives. Volunteers are key in the the preservation and maintenance of our historic structures on the Buildings and Grounds Committee and other volunteers use their green thumb to keep our grounds looking beautiful by being on the Grounds Crew.

These are just a few of the ways volunteers give their time and talents to the museum, and we are always looking for new people to jump in and be involved. Don't see a volunteer position that interests you, let's chat and see if we can find a role that fits you.

Whether you want to volunteer weekly, once a month, or just for special events, we can find an opportunity for you to serve the community through volunteering at the Milton House Museum.
